Intonations and Toccatas (Kalmus Edition) [Spiral-bound] Review

Intonations and Toccatas [Spiral-bound]Sebastian Anton Scherer was an organist in Ulm as the War of Thirty Years came to an end. His collection of smaller and greater organ pieces is heavily influenced by the recent Italian organ style. The toccatas are written in a broad and solemn style close to out-written improvisation. The canzonas are quite different in style: to me, they are small treasures of melodical invention and intellectual playfullness. Scherer is a nice friendship for mass and for evensong - but a lot of his qualities are concealed in the execution and the registration, left to the discretion of the organist. Thanks to Calmus for the spiral binding of the score!
