Music for Little Mozarts: Lesson Assignment Book [Paperback] Review

Music for Little Mozarts: Lesson Assignment Book [Paperback]This "Lesson Assignment Book" is a great way to stay organized with your child's piano lessons. It can be used with Levels 1 -4 of the "Music for Little Mozarts" series.

There are 32 lesson "Assignment" pages that span two pages each (eight months of weekly lessons!). It tracks the lesson number, day, date and time (this is a great feature for parents who need to keep track of when to pay the teacher next!), and when the next lesson is. There is a homework section that uses the Lesson Book, Music Workbook, Discovery Book and Other (great for Recital Book). There is a "New" and "Review" column for each lesson book used. Next is a days of the week tracker for recording practice time in minutes. For teachers, there is space for evaulating that day's lesson and comments. Parents are also given comment space. At the end, there is work space for the child with a printed keyboard and music notation lines.

The end of book has space for "My Favorite Pieces" and "Music I Have Performed."

This is an inexpensive way to stay organized while your child learns piano. We have enjoyed it thoroughly!

L'Art De Toucher Le Clavecin. The Art of Playing the Harpsichord (French and English Edition) [Paperback] Review

L'Art De Toucher Le Clavecin. The Art of Playing the Harpsichord [Paperback]After years of choral and organ training and experience, I'm teaching myself to play the harpsichord (a modern, brand new to the market Roland digital). I began by building a library (mostly free, I hoped initially) via good professor Google. During my research I found a 'true' copy of this Couperin work for free download. The file presented a series of huge obstacles to my understanding...not the least of which was its having been written in French. In addition, the terminology and concepts were Couperin's or from his time and I was clueless as to what he meant. This beautifully edited and produced book by Margery Halford lets Couperin speak to me. French and English text are side by side in a face large enough for these older eyes to read. Musical examples are in bold and gray so one can easily compare what was written with how it likely should be played. There are copious notes and editorial comments. Download the original if you'd just like to have it. But,I'd guess you will use this wonderful book as an important foundation to Couperin and the ideas he brought the world.

Product Description:
An important 18th-century instruction book, Couperin's The Art of Playing the Harpsichord contains valuable information on technique, fingering, phrasing, ornamentation and keyboard performance style. Halford's scholarly introduction includes a biographical sketch of the composer, a thorough discussion of French Baroque ornamentation and a useful summary of Couperin's style. The eight preludes used by Couperin to illustrate his approach are musical gems rarely found in other collections.

Garcia: Collector's Edition (Piano/Vocal/Chords) [Paperback] Review

Garcia: Collector's Edition [Paperback]Wow! Someone finally reissued this excellent book.First published by Straight Arrow Publishers, I bought my copy new back in '72 and read it often. It is a great interview with Garcia at a time when the Dead were just taking off. Garcia reveals he "has just made the commitment" to see where the music takes him, and as we all know, the band really went places. Hopefully, the current publishers have reissued it in its original form.
The second part of the book, "A Stoned Sunday Rap," is a great piece that really gets to the heart and soul of the Dead experience, beyond the music. I've always admired the philosophy behind the music for its zen-like approach to life and living; Garcia and Reich tease out the details.
A must-read for anyone who enjoys the Dead.Much better than any of the tell-alls that have been published recently.

Hymns with a Velvet Touch (Sacred Performer Collections) [Paperback] Review

Hymns with a Velvet Touch [Paperback]I can't believe I'm the first person on Amazon to review this gem!As a church organist for decades, I purchase piano arrangements infrequently and mainly for my own pleasure at home. This is probably the most delightful volume I've found in years. The lilting, flowing, velvety arrangements of long-loved hymn tunes are wonderful for private worshipful moments. In a number of significant ways, this book is unusual. The difficulty level is great enough to produce glorious sound, but not so hard as to cause frustration for someone without extensive hours available for practice. As an added bonus, I have been able to adapt this music quite easily for organ at church and have received numerous good comments on the result.Adapting "velvety" piano music for organ use is not always easy, especially when there are extensive runs, but this music is truly unique and anyone with good pedal technique could manage it easily.I just love these arrangements and am sure other church pianists or organists will too.

Neil Young -- Complete Music, Vol 3: 1974-1979 (Piano/Vocal/Chords) (Neil Young Complete, 1974-1979) [Sheet music] Review

Neil Young -- Complete Music, Vol 3: 1974-1979 [Sheet music]I love this book, but I think Volume I and particularly II are better music books. This book has some great stuff in it, including photos, and a little bio stuff, but it isn't as deep as either of the first two thus the 4 out of 5 star rating. But for any Neil Young Fan, this is one for the collection.

Somewhere in Time Sheet Music Piano By John Barry Review

Somewhere in Time Sheet Music Piano By John BarryEach time I've played this on the piano, at least one person has been brought to tears because the music is simply so beautiful. Difficult to play, but well worth it! I highly recommend buying it. For beginners, there is actually an "Easy Piano" version of this song that still sounds lovely - just easier to play! Hope you enjoy playing this as much as I do :)
