A Month of Sundays: Thanksgiving and Praise [Paperback]

(This is Sarah, my husband's name comes up on the review.) I purchased this book just for the arrangement of "Now Thank We All Our God," which is meditative and in 3/4, which gives it a lilting feel, written mostly in triplets. There is an energetic arrangement of "O For A Thousand Tongues to Sing," and a great theme and variations on "Come, Christians, Join to Sing." The minor, flowing 3rd variation contrasts with the baroque-style 2nd variation. They are in the same key so you can play the variations in any order. As an advanced pianist, I could master her arrangements with about 30 minutes of practice. They are not difficult, but they sound complex and have beautiful layers. Not as frilly or showy as Mark Hayes, they have more of a classical feel to them. I would recommend any of Jan's books for the church pianist trying to find fresh, accessible arrangements for Sundays. You can pull them out and change around the preludes, offertories, and postludes. I've played them all at various times in different services and had comments every time from congregants who enjoyed the music.
