Best Christmas Music (Big Note Songbook) [Paperback] Review

This is one step up from Easy Play, where the book gives you 1 note melodies for the right hand only and easy chords.This book gives mostly easy chords and a line for each hand.Occasionally there are two notes for one hand instead of only one.Some songs have either one sharp or one flat.I mainly bought this book because it has the Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire), but I enjoy many of the songs.

Sleigh Ride and Other Christmas Songs & Carols [Paperback] Review

I thought this product was the same collection of music we had as a kid... but no.:(Anyway, the collection still has a lot of good songs in it, but I didn't realize that the "Big Note Piano" on the corner meant simplified.It's definitely beginner music (intermediate and advanced players will be rather bored).

I guess they don't make the full collection anymore.It's too bad.I'm looking for some old Christmas songs that were only in this book.

I've had this piano book since I was a child playing piano. I've now been teaching piano for 27 years, and this is the most basic Christmas book there is. It has all of the standard Christmas songs with basic chords the way people are used to hearing them. There is no jazz, unusual rhythm, or other surprises. It's the one that you'll need for everyone to stand around the piano and sing with. The music is for an intermediate player who wants to play Christmas carols, not piano solos.

This is a very interesting edition of the 15 Alfred Burt Christmas carols.It includes not only the original music and lyrics, but also images of the original greeting cards which were sent out between 1942-54.Burt died too soon at the age of 33, and included in this book are writings by his wife Anne which tell about the carols and her life with Alfred.Many people already know "Some Children See Him," "Caroling, Caroling," and "The Star Carol," but "All On A Christmas Morning" and "Come, Dear Children" are just as great.Burt was the son of an Episcopal rector, but he was also influenced by jazz, so you find both hymnody and modern harmonies in his work."The Star Carol" is not only his masterpiece, it is also one of the greatest carols ever written.
