The Joy of Christmas (Joy Of...Series) [Paperback] Review

I've had this piano book since I was a child playing piano. I've now been teaching piano for 27 years, and this is the most basic Christmas book there is. It has all of the standard Christmas songs with basic chords the way people are used to hearing them. There is no jazz, unusual rhythm, or other surprises. It's the one that you'll need for everyone to stand around the piano and sing with. The music is for an intermediate player who wants to play Christmas carols, not piano solos.

Neil Young: Greatest Hits (Piano/Vocal/Chords) [Paperback] Review

Some of the best Neil Young tunes here-in .....well-made with decent notation to fiddle around with my meager keyboard skills which equals hours of enjoyment.

While true Neil Young fans know his treasure-rich songwriting career encompasses many many fine tunes not in this collection, it's difficult to find much fault in these sixteen beauties. (I am lucky to have purchased both "On the Beach" and "Zuma" songbooks for piano/guitar when available in the 70's)

Greatist Hits starts with "Down by the River"; easy to hear the plaintive cry of lost love. But I also wonder if Neil's choices of chords/melody were a direct or otherwise influence when Pink Floyd's group effort "Breathe" came out a few years later? Inneresting, but as Neil says onstage, "It's all the same song!"

Well, if you like the music of Neil Young, buy this and mess around with the music (whether you can read notes on the music staff or not isn't critcal)to see which chords are played in first position, and which aren't. Listen carefully enough from the "way it sounds" vs.the recordings; then you can consider the songbook purchase a substitute for a few piano lessons and learn to pick out some great tunes.

Progressive Rock Keyboard: Hal Leonard Keyboard Style Series [Paperback] Review

I don't why anyone has'nt written a review for this book yet. Its perfect, and the accompanying CD is so helpful to help learn the rhythms of progressive rock keyboard. I would greatly recommend this book if you are sick of playing yankee doodle or any other book with boring sheet music. Contained in the book is an adequate description of the genre and presents perfect examples that you can learn. I found this book very satisfying and not too hard. I also have the rock keyboard and find that one great as well. So do buy these books.

The Gabe Dixon Band - Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook Review

First off, let me say that if you haven't purchased Gabe Dixon's newest album, you must do that as you buy this book. It's amazing!I'm assuming that since you're looking for the songbook, you've already heard his songs. The book lives up to what I expected it to be:Piano tabs with the melody included in the notes, guitar tabs, and vocals.

I've had the book for about a day now and have played through the entire book.It has a medium level of difficulty and is pretty fun to play.My only beef about the book is that I wished it would include just the tabs that Gabe plays and not include the melody line embedded in it.I'm able to play around with the tabs a bit and sing the melody, but it would be nice to add some of the flair that Gabe includes (which i haven't been able to make up yet). However, that's how all of these songbooks are written so i guess i can't complain that much about it.That little tidbit shouldn't prevent anyone from buying this book. It's great and I highly recommend it!Great job Gabe, I've been waiting for your book for quite sometime!

A Souvenir Disney Songbook: Favorite Songs from Disneyland and Walt Disney World [Paperback] Review

What makes this book a great find is that it includes many songs for rides that have either been refurbished or altogether removed from the Walt Disney World Resort (ie - Spaceship Earth's "Tomorrow's Child" and Kitchen Kabaret's "Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit") Also, one of my favorite songs, "Golden Dream" from Epcot's American Adventure is also included! The songs are fairly simple to play (guitar chords are written in) for any experience level. I'm so glad I found this book and added it to my collection!
