Secret Garden [Paperback] Review

This has been one of my favorite musicals since when I first sw it in1991. It tells the classic story of the beloved novel by the same name. Themusic is lovely and the whole thing has a mysterious air to it, somethingnever really done in a Secret Garden movie or musical before. I like it.All the lyrics are wonderful and the songs have a wonderful tune too. It isneat to be able to read all the lyrics and all the spoken words. Theoriginal cast recording of this musical has some of the spoken words, butnot near all of them. It is a nice way to re-live the experience. I highlyreccomend this book. If you like this book, you may also like the originalnovel "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett and theoriginal cast recording of the musical itself.

Included are the exact sheet music used in the songs in the CDs.Another reviewer said that what is contained is different, but please know that that is not true.

Very good!I would highly recommend buying this.The songs are beautiful and not hard to play at all.

I purchsed this book for my preteen daughter who is an advanced intermediate player.The pieces are a challenge for her, but are beautiful and inspring - perfect for the special piano performances she needs to be preparing for.

David Lanz - Sacred Road (Piano Solo Personality) [Paperback] Review

I have been playing music from this book for almost two years and I still enjoy most of the pieces. There is a nice mix of fast and slow pieces. I think David's music is very open to personal interpretation, which makes for a different experience depending upon what I bring to the piano at the time.Person favorites include Nocturne, Before the Last Leaf Falls, The Long Goodbye, Variations on a Theme from Pachelbel's Canon, and Knights in White Satin.David's music is complex enough to interest the experienced player but not so difficult to frustrate you.Some of the passages do take time to master but it is well worth the effort.

Enya - A Day Without Rain (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

I enjoyed the CD, and a little over a year ago I started learning to play the piano as an adult.I was a little apprehensive that this book would be over my head, but my piano teacher has already incorporated some of these songs into my "curriculum".The arrangements are a bit challenging for someone at my level of skill, but what saves me is that the tempo of these enchanting songs are slow enough that I can keep up.I am quite happy with this book.

Enya - The Memory of Trees (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

If you like Enya's music, and even if you don't, this book offers some great songs to play on the piano. They are very pretty, and fun to play. Lyrics are included, making singing along relatively easy for anyone who likes to.

The Memory of Trees (no lyrics) is kind of repatitive, and the right hand plays in constant 8ths, but it's lovely and a good exercise.
China Roses (lyrics) is very pretty, but a little difficult to play.
Hope Has a Place and From Where I Am I've played before, but right now they escape my memory (they probably have 5 sharps)....
La Sonadora (Spanish? lyrics) is kind of pretty.
On My Way Home (lyrics) is impossible to play up to speed (unless you have an extra hand) but it's good otherwise.
Once You Had Gold is a very pretty song. I think this is one with 4 or 5 sharps, but once you get over that it's fun to play.
Pax Deorum (Latin? lyrics) I've never played the whole thing, because it is boring to play, even though it sounds nice.
Teahouse Moon (no lyrics) is lots of fun; it is also kind of repatitive, but in a great way that makes it easy to play with the dynamics.
Athair Ar Neahm (Gaelic lyrics) is beautiful, lots of fun to play, and another one where playing with the dynamics is great.
Anywhere Is (lyrics) is kind of difficult, but fun once you can play it.

These aren't difficult songs, despite those with many sharps, but not for beginners. Level 4 and up, maybe?

You probably won't like all the songs in this piano book, but the ones you do like you'll play a lot.

Also recommended are Enya's other piano books (Shepherd Moons & Watermark especially). If you like this you'll like those, and visa versa.

Yanni - In My Time (Piano Solos) [Paperback] Review

This is a must-have for all pianists who love Yanni! Each piece is emotionally moving and ingeniously intricate, though not so intricate as to be impossibly difficult. There are only one or two typos that most people would miss, but they never detract from the integrity of the piece. "In The Morning Light" is exceptionally beautiful, and is not that difficult. "Until The Last Moment" is another excellent piece, although it is the most difficult in the entire book. I could keep on listing my favorites, but that list would include pretty much every song in the book. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

The Best of Yanni (Piano Solo Personality) [Paperback] Review

I would have to say that is book is very good. Some of the songs are just very good others are not. But overall great. This book is like for level 3 or 4 piano it is less difficult than Yanni's In My Time piano. But In My Time is more piano like with is also more difficult. This book is more for melodic. Most of Yanni's song are left hand are the same not identical but it has the same variation, but of course some part are truely unbelieveable you can play it over and over and never get tired. I would recommend this book thenget the In My Time because it sightly harder. Happy Playing the Piano!!

David Lanz - Collection (Piano Solo Personality) [Paperback] Review

I have been taking piano lessons for over a year and I find these songs to be very fun to play.Don't be scared off by the "new age" label on David Lanz's music; if you love the piano you'll love what he conveys with his songs.I especially love playing "Dark Horse," "The Firedance Suite," and "Dancing on the Berlin Wall."These songs are mostly triplet based, so they are easy to learn and sound great.Even though I struggle with easy Mozart peices I find Lanz's songs captivating and a pleasure to learn.There are a good range of peices to learn in this book, from the tender "Return to the Heart," to the bombastic rhythm of "Dark Horse."A great book of music to have in your collection, whether you are at a level to see them as a challenge, or to play them easily.They are guaranteed to please.
