The Second Book of Soprano Solos (Vocal Collection) [Paperback] Review

I bought this book with the set of accompaniment cds at a local music store. I used it mainly for my own pleasure, to primarily, "exercise" a classically trained voice that doesn't get much use.Lately I've been using it to practice for auditions for choirs, community operas, etc. Not playing the piano, and not having ready use of someone who does, the discs come quite in handy as it allows me to hear and practice with the actual accompaniment that will be played when I go for the audition.Note: this is accompaniment only. There is no melody line to these recordings, unless they just happen to be part of the original accompaniment. There are no vocal demonstrations either. You will still need to be able to learn the melody on your own. Of course, melody and words are included in the music book. Songs include those in English, German, French, and Italian.
This particular book contains the following:

Torch Songs in Sultry Keys: 35 Standards in Low Keys for Women Singers (Vocal Collection) [Paperback] Review

As an alto going on bass, I was always getting in trouble with my voice teacher and accompianist for bringing in songs that were too high, luckily, I found this book. It's wonderful to be able to sing a song that's low enough to be comfortable!

The songs in the book seem to be extremely low, however...a lot of girls will find it difficult to go that low, however, I'd highly reccomend this book for second-altos looking for pieces in low keys.

Phantom Vocal Selections (Piano) [Paperback] Review

I have seen the Lloyd Webber version two times and the Yeston version four. There is no way that the Lloyd Webber version can match up to the Yeston version. In this book you learn more about the character of Erik,he has a sense of humor, an aching heart, and a love for Christine.Youlearn how he met Christine, who his parents are and why he loves Christine. The Lloyd Webber version is spectacular and I will always love it, but itis very vaugue, and for those who wish to know Erik (the Phantom) this is avery good book to read.

All Sondheim, Volume 1 [Paperback] Review

As a fanatical Sondheim lover and singer, this book was awonderful addition to my collection. Among some of his best earlytitles, this book includes songs like "I Remember", "Losing My Mind", and "Another Hundred People". These are wonderfully written pieces which deserve many books like this one. They are a joy to listen to and even more to play, and I hope everyone will enjoy this book as much as I do.
