The Rolling Stones- Let It Bleed (Piano/Vocal Guitar) (Alfred's Classic Album Editions) [Paperback] Review

This book is great because it has all the songs from the classic Let it Bleed Album.I was suprised that there were very basic mistakes, for example the introduction states that Brian Jones was replaced by Mick Taylor, an American, after he died.Wha?Mick Taylor is English.Also, the slide guitar solo/interlude for Monkey Man is not correct.There are missing parts to other songs, such as the picking work for Country Honk.I give this 3 stars since this book, like the tab book for Beggars Banquet from Alfred publishing, will give you enough information to play the songs in a similar fashion to the recorded versions.

Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways (Piano/Vocal/Guitar Artist Songbook) [Paperback] Review

"American V: A Hundred Highways" has become one of my favorite Cash albums, and so I was very glad to see that Hal-Leonard came out with a corresponding songbook.As an intermediate pianist, I found most songs simple enough to play through with minimal practice.

"On the Evening Train," "Love's Been Good to Me," "Rose of My Heart," and "I'm Free from the Chain Gang Now" have the most piano-friendly arrangements.These four were some of the easiest to learn, but they are not oversimplified.

"Help Me" is one of those songs that I wish were transcribed as accompaniment, without the melody incorporated throughout the treble clef.With use of the chord guides, though, I got around that.

I thought for sure "God's Gonna Cut You Down" without the foot-stomping and handclapping would sound weak on the piano.I'm glad to say I was wrong.Without the percussion and electric guitar, the tone is actually darker.

Cash's songwriting tends to be very simple (which is part of his charm) and "Like the 309" is no exception.It is still a lot of fun to play, though, and there is plenty of room to add your own touches.

The reason for my 4-out-of-5 rating is the same as why I would give the album 4 out of 5: "I Came to Believe" and "Four Strong Winds," which in my opinion are weak songs in comparison to the rest.That being said, though, most Cash fans and fans of classic folk/country music will appreciate the music here.

I've played music for years, and now that I'm retired, I wanted to understand more about what I was playing.I picked up Mark Harrison's Contemporary Music Theory Book level 2 and made my way through it.I was stunned to find that I had been instructed incorrectly on several points.That was one reason I purchased the book.I wanted to clean up some confusion I had with theory. Now I've just finished the level 3 book.Mark Harrison's books are structured with achievable learning steps.His lessons are followed up with exercises after the chapter to reinforce concepts taught in the chapter.The answers follow the exercises.This is greatly appreciated because it gives the reader immediately feedback.The reader can check the answers, and if there was an error made, the reader can go back and correct any misunderstanding before moving on.If you want to learn more about music structure and harmony, these books are an excellent source without having to go through music theory classes.The lessons are clearly written out and understandable.These books provide the reader with skills so they can not only understand the movement and progressions of chords, but be able to substitute chords in any key for harmonies they may want.Mark Harrison is an expert.This is the best set of theory books that I've ever seen.
